AS32002 BGP Communities

Overview

RackGenius supports BGP communities to help customers control how their routes are advertised to specific upstreams and IXPs. Communities are optional, and if you do not set any communities, we will export your prefixes normally.

Supported Community Types

Informational Communities

RackGenius tags routes internally for policy and troubleshooting:

• 32002:500 — Route originated by RackGenius

• 32002:900 — Route originated by customer (downstream)

• 32002:100 — Route learned from transit

• 32002:200 — Route learned from public peering / IXP

• 32002:300 — Route learned from private peering

Location Communities

RackGenius may tag routes with POP identifiers:

• 32002:11 — Grand Rapids (GRR)

Action Communities (Customer-Controlled)

Customers can tag their announced prefixes with action communities to influence export behavior.

Do Not Advertise

• 32002:6110 — Do not advertise to Hurricane Electric Transit (HE)

• 32002:6120 — Do not advertise to 123NET Transit

• 32002:6130 — Do not advertise to GRR-IX (all bilaterals and route servers)

• 32002:6140 — Do not advertise to DET-IX (all bilaterals and route servers)

AS Path Prepend

Prepend AS32002 up to 3 times to make a path less preferred from specific destinations.

Hurricane Electric Transit (HE)

• 32002:6111 — Prepend 1x to HE

• 32002:6112 — Prepend 2x to HE

• 32002:6113 — Prepend 3x to HE

123NET Transit

• 32002:6121 — Prepend 1x to 123NET

• 32002:6122 — Prepend 2x to 123NET

• 32002:6123 — Prepend 3x to 123NET

GRR-IX (bilats + route servers)

• 32002:6131 — Prepend 1x to GRR-IX

• 32002:6132 — Prepend 2x to GRR-IX

• 32002:6133 — Prepend 3x to GRR-IX

DET-IX (bilats + route servers)

• 32002:6141 — Prepend 1x to DET-IX

• 32002:6142 — Prepend 2x to DET-IX

• 32002:6143 — Prepend 3x to DET-IX

Examples

1. Do not advertise a prefix to Hurricane Electric

• Announce your prefix with community: 32002:6110

2. Prepend AS32002 3x toward DET-IX only

• Announce your prefix with community: 32002:6143

3. Do not advertise a prefix to both IXs

• Announce your prefix with communities: 32002:6130 and 32002:6140

Notes

• Communities are applied per-prefix. If you announce multiple prefixes, you can apply different policies to each.
