Setting up a Windows Server VPS but not sure how to connect to it? No worries, we’re here to help!

NOTE: You’ll need to provide your own license if operating a Windows Server VPS. Otherwise, you’ll be running the Evaluation version of the Operating System.

How to Connect to a Windows Server VPS

  • Log in to our VPS control panel at vps.rackgenius.com. Not sure how? Click THIS.
  • Select the Servers tab and make note of your IP address. This is displayed directly under the date that the server was created. (Ex. 163.123.236.XxX or 2602:f964:1::XxxX)

  • On your Windows computer, type in Remote Desktop Connection. When the app opens, type in the IP address that you grabbed earlier and then Connect.

  • A new window will appear asking for your credentials. If you don’t have your credentials handy, check your email. You should have received one from us titled Your Server is Ready!

  • Click OK after entering your credentials, and you’ll be connected to your server. If you receive a certificate warning, be sure to allow it.
  • Using macOS? First, you will need to head over to the App Store, search for "Windows App" and download it (this is not windows os, this is the RDP client for macOS. Microsoft was a bit stupid with the new name)
  • Once the app is open, you need to click the + icon in the top right, and click "Add PC" Now, you will need to enter your VPS's IP address you got earlier, then under Credentials, click Ask when required, then Add. Enter your details. If you don’t have your credentials handy, check your email. You should have received one from us titled Your Server is Ready!
  • Click add then click add again. Now you can connect to your Windows VPS from your MacOS client.
  •
  • That’s it!
