What is a Port?
A port is an identifier in a computer network that is used to distinguish between services and processes running on a server. Each port is assigned a unique number that is used to route traffic to the appropriate application or service running on a server. Ports are essential to the Internet Protocol networking suite.
Why Add an Additional Port?
Some Minecraft plugins such as Dynmap require an additional port for the webserver to work. If a plugin mentions adding a port, you’ll need to make an allocation.
How to Add an Additional Port
NOTE: We include one additional server port allocation to all customers. If additional ports are needed please open a ticket with us.
- Login to our Control Panel at rackgenius.com and select your server.
- Select the Network
- Click CREATE ALLOCATION. This will assign an additional port to your server.
- Done!
The primary allocation is what appears in the console tab under "Address" and is the port used for your Minecraft or BeamMP server. Each allocation must be used with its specific port and hostname/IP address. You cannot use different ports with the hostname/IP address from a different allocation.
