Overview
RackGenius offers an optional backup system for VPS customers who want added protection against data loss. This article explains how our VPS backup system works, what to expect from it, and how our disaster recovery process fits in.
VPS Backup System
Backups for VPSs are available as a paid add-on. Once enabled, customers can manage their backups directly from the VPS control panel.
Key Details:
-
Manual or Scheduled: You can take backups manually or configure automatic daily backups.
-
Full Backups: These are full system backups, not snapshots. They capture the entire state of your VPS.
-
Retention Control: You have full control over your backups, including when to delete or overwrite them.
-
No Forced Deletion: We do not delete your backups unless your VPS service is terminated and no longer active.
Backups are ideal for restoring your server to a previous working state in the event of data corruption, misconfiguration, or user error.
Disaster Recovery
Our disaster recovery process is separate from user-initiated backups and is intended for emergency use only.
What to Know:
-
Purpose: DR backups are maintained to help recover services in rare, high-impact events such as critical hardware failure.
-
Scope: These backups are full server backups and are used solely to bring affected VPSs back online.
-
Access: DR backups are not user-accessible and are only used at RackGenius's discretion during recovery efforts.
-
Limitations: DR backups are not a substitute for user-managed backups and may not include the most recent changes.
